Growth & Grace LLC
The transition to parenthood is a monumental life shift. While this period is often idealized as a time of pure joy, the reality involves profound physical, emotional, and hormonal changes. It is incredibly common to experience complex, challenging emotions during pregnancy and the first year following childbirth.
Perinatal & Post-Partum Counseling
Areas we address:
- The “Baby Blues”: Affecting up to 80% of new parents, this is a brief period of weepiness, worry, and fatigue that peaks a few days after birth and resolves naturally within two weeks
- Postpartum Depression (PPD): Unlike the baby blues, PPD lasts longer, is more intense, and does not go away on its own. It involves persistent sadness, difficulty bonding with the baby, and feelings of worthlessness or intense guilt
- Perinatal Anxiety & OCD: Characterized by constant, terrifying worries about the baby’s safety, racing thoughts, or scary, intrusive mental images coupled with repetitive behaviors (i.e. checking on the sleeping baby constantly to ease the fear)
- Postpartum Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): Often triggered by a traumatic labor, emergency medical interventions, or birth complications, leading to flashbacks, hypervigilance, and avoidance of medical settings
Perinatal therapy offers a compassionate, judgment-free zone tailored specifically to the unique vulnerabilities of early parenthood. Through targeted clinical support, we work together to:
- Deconstruct the myth of the “perfect parent” and reduce maternal/paternal guilt.
- Process birth trauma or unexpected shifts in your birth and parenting plans.
- Develop concrete coping strategies for sleep deprivation and anxiety management.
- Strengthen communication and transition dynamics within your relationship.
